What kind of links work
Only direct links to a video file work, for example https://example.com/clip.mp4. The server must allow other websites to read the file (CORS). Clipvexa checks the HTTP status, the content type and the size, and then checks the actual content with the same validation used for local files.
Why a valid link can fail
Some servers block downloads from other websites. Your browser enforces this rule (CORS), so Clipvexa cannot work around it and does not use a proxy. In that case, download the file and upload it from your device.
Platforms that are not supported
YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Vimeo, Twitch, Dailymotion and Reddit are detected, and nothing is downloaded from them. They offer no authorized way to extract video in the browser, and Clipvexa does not try to bypass protections or authentication. Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive links open a web page rather than the file, and there is no official connector yet. Download your own video from there and upload it.
Limits and privacy
- Imports are limited to 120 MB.
- Only https links are accepted (http only for localhost).
- The download is a plain request without cookies or referrer, and you can cancel it at any time.
- Your browser contacts the host server to download the file. Clipvexa does not receive the video or the link; after the download, processing happens on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. Clipvexa does not download from YouTube or similar platforms. Download your own video from the platform and upload it.
Why do I see “the server does not allow importing”?
The server that hosts the video does not let other websites download it, or it could not be reached. That is a browser security rule and cannot be bypassed.
Does the host see my IP?
Yes. As with opening any link, the host server receives a request from your browser and can log it.
